Join us at our next WIA event

2018 WIA Events

This year’s WIA events theme is “structures of power”. These “structures” can be internal or external; they can be psychological, societal, spatial, or digital. We hope that, through this year’s events, we will gain insight into the social and cultural structures we work within, and how to negotiate and balance moments of leading with moments of following. The cycle will be split into three parts:

  • Structuring Self (Spring) – how to design and develop a career for yourself
  • Negotiating Structures (Summer) – strategies for advancement and communication
  • Expanding Structures (Autumn) – connecting with industries, events, and topics beyond architecture

Join us at the events listed below to explore these power structures with us.

Raising EQ: Getting Smart About Our Emotional Intelligence

  • MLK Library 150 East San Fernando Street San Jose, CA, 95112 United States (map)

FEATURED SPEAKERS: Catherine Houdeck & Mary-Welty-Dapkus

This workshop is designed for professionals who are ready to develop their understanding of their Emotional Intelligence (EQ). The speakers will introduce you to the concept of Emotional Intelligence and work with participants to expand the range of their EQ skillset.

This event is highly interactive; participants will learn about real-life and current situations. The speakers will create participatory discussions or exercises that allow participants to gain relevant insights into challenges they may be facing or may face in the future, and find new, creative ways of resolving them.

The goal is to increase your professional capacity by raising your EQ. Additionally, the event will touch on the topic of Success Factors, which are a higher predictor of contentment in life than IQ and IQ assessments. To do so, the two outcomes we will focus on will be Effectiveness (capacity to generate results) and Relationships (capacity to build and maintain networks).
